Rally Mexico 2008

Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews — Tags: , — admin @ 6:54 pm

The FIA World Rally Championship journeys to North America this week for the first of seven consecutive gravel events.

Loose surface roads are the dominant terrain in the series, hosting 10 of the 15 rounds, and so Rally Mexico will offer the best guideline to date for the season ahead.

Mexico is the first traditional gravel rally of the year and it is also the first long-haul event, and the only time the crews will visit the North American continent.

Based in the city of Leon in the Guanajuato region of Mexico’s central highlands, the event promises very different conditions to any seen so far this year in either Monte Carlo or Sweden.

Crews will compete for the first time on Pirelli’s new Scorpion gravel championship control tyre, available in only one compound and tread pattern.

It will be the third different tyre design crews have used in the first three events of the year.

Crews are banned from cutting the tread of their tyres this year, which on gravel typically meant opening up the tread pattern to maximise the tyre’s ability to cut through the loose surface.

This will mean road position is crucial as those further down the order will benefit from road cleaning, meaning a smoothing of the loose surface that will afford the standard tread better traction.

The route is much the same as last year with only minor additions to sections of the Ortega and El Cubilete speed tests. Mexico is the most compact route in the WRC, and this year is even more so than last with a total distance of just 830 kilometres. The 354 competitive kilometres of gravel roads traverse the mountains of the Sierra de Lobos and Sierra de Guanajuato to the east of Leon, reaching a peak altitude of just over 2700 metres where the oxygen is thin and engines struggle to develop power.

NCAA Basketball Betting - Texas A&M vs. Texas

Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews — Tags: , — admin @ 11:09 pm

Texas A&M will try and pull off a rare feat as they try and sweep Texas on Monday night.  The Aggies won 80-63 at home against the Longhorns on January 30th.  Texas A&M comes into Monday’s game having won six of their last seven but they were upset at home by Oklahoma State on Saturday. “It’s disappointing,” coach Mark Turgeon said. “We’ve been a hustle team. We’ve been guarding well and rebounding well. I kept waiting for the light to come on.”

SBG Global reports that early NCAA Basketball betting has the public taking Texas at Home.

Winning at Texas has not been easy for A&M.  They have lost their last five games in Austin.  This has been a home dominated series as neither team has won on the other’s home court in over three years.  Texas is 13-1 at home this season.  A&M is 3-3 in true road games.  Texas has won five in a row overall including a very impressive 82-77 win at Baylor on Saturday. Damion James had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Texas.  The Longhorns led by 14 late before allowing Baylor to get back into the game. “Everybody gets tired,” said D.J. Augustin, “We were out there trying to fight through it and doing what we had to do to win. I have great teammates that stepped up and were doing their job, and that is why we got a win.”  The Longhorns have been winning even though Augustin has struggled.  He has only averaged 9 points per game in the last two games but still leads the team at 18.8 points per game.  The Longhorns are averaging 73.8 points per game during their five game winning streak.  That number may be difficult to reach on Monday considering A&M is holding teams to 61.2 points per game.

Here are the NCAA Basketball betting stats for Monday’s game.  The Aggies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Aggies are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as an underdog. The Aggies are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 road games. The Aggies are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.

The Longhorns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Longhorns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Longhorns are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 Monday games. The home team is 9-2-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings between the two teams

The Over is 4-0 in the Aggies last 4 games as a road underdog. The Under is 4-1 in the Aggies last 5 road games. The Under is 7-1 in the Longhorns last 8 Monday games. The Under is 6-1 in the Longhorns last 7 home games. The Over is 4-1 in the Longhorns last 5 vs. the Big 12. The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between the two teams.

NBA Basketball, NCAA Basketball Betting Previews

The Washington Wizards would sure like to get Caron Butler back in the starting lineup but that may not happen until after the All-Star break although Butler is traveling with the team.  He did not play in Wednesday’s 85-77 home loss to San Antonio. Butler came back from a hip flexor injury and played Sunday against the Lakers but didn’t look right and then aggravated the injury in Tuesday’s loss at Philadelphia.  The Wizards are 1-4 without Butler in the starting lineup this season. SBGGlobal reports that early NBA betting has the public taking Nuggets at Home.

“We listen to our training staff, we listen to Caron and what our doctors say,” Wizards’ head coach Eddie Jordan said, “There’s no real damage there, it’s just sore, so if he feels he can go with moderate pain, he’s going to try to go. We want him to get better as well as he can for us so we can win games.” Some of Butler’s teammates did not think he would play until after the All-Star break.  The Wizards are a completely different team when Butler is in not in the lineup.  They are 7-24 without him since he joined the Wizards in 2005.

Denver is coming off a heart-breaking 118-115 overtime loss to Utah on Wednesday.  Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points before fouling out in overtime.  Allen Iverson led Denver with 34 points and 10 assists.

Here are the NBA betting stats for Friday’s game.  The Wizards are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Friday games. The Wizards are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the Northwest. The Wizards are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Wizards are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Wizards are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Denver.

The Nuggets are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 Friday games. The Nuggets are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games. The Nuggets are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. the Southeast. The Nuggets are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Nuggets are 37-17 ATS in their last 54 vs. the Eastern Conference.

The Over is 5-0 in the Wizards last 5 road games. The Under is 9-0 in the Wizards last 9 vs. the Western Conference. The Under is 5-2 in the Wizards last 7 vs. the Northwest. The Over is 5-1 in the Nuggets last 6 home games.

The Over is 4-1 in the Nuggets last 5 overall. The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Denver between the two teams.

India’s champion status amounts to little

PUNTERS have baulked at backing Twenty20 world champions India against Australia at the MCG tonight. “The biggest bet on the match has been $8000 at $1.45 on the Aussies while India are unwanted at $2.60,” said TAB Sportsbet’s Glenn Munsie.

However, a couple of Sportingbet Australia clients have wagered bets of $4000 and $3000 on India to cause an upset.

Sportsbook.com spokesman Col Greer said Australia were at $1.43 to win the match, while India had firmed slightly to $2.85 after $5000 was placed on them at $2.90.

Mark Morrissey from Betchoice.com said despite the short odds, “every bet we’ve written [has been] for the Aussies”. And Alan Eskander said Betstar.com.au had attracted a bet of $25,000 on Australia.

Munsie added that Australia were $1.36 favourites for the upcoming triangular one-day series, followed by India ($4.50) and Sri Lanka ($7).

Giants popular, too

Not every punter thinks the New England Patriots will stroll to the Super Bowl title on Sunday. “Easily the best-backed option is the New York Giants with a 12-point start,” Centrebet’s Neil Evans said. “We took nearly $30,000 on this and trimmed the start from 12 points down to 11. The punters have even [speculated] the Giants to win the match, although the Patriots remain a very short-priced favourite.”
Greer said the Giants, with 12 points start, had been well backed with Sportsbook.com.au, firming to $1.87.

Meanwhile, Eskander said Betstar.com.au took a wager of $35,000 on New England to win the Super Bowl from the same client who backed the Giants at the inflated odds of $41 before they upset the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional play-offs.

A Sportsbook.com punter this week splurged $50,000 on the Roosters to make the NRL top eight this year at $1.45.
TAB Sportsbet has also attracted early rugby league betting interest, with Munsie reporting wagers of $30,000 on Brisbane at $1.40 to make the top eight, $5000 on the Gold Coast at $3.75, $5600 and $2500 on Canberra at $6.50. In wooden-spoon betting, 2005 premiers Wests Tigers attracted a $1000 bet at $13.
