NFL Season Delayed and Super Bowl Cancellation Odds

The NFL officially notified its players union on Tuesday that it will opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement, which could lead to a season without a salary cap in 2010 and a possible lockout in 2011.

With fans on edge, wondering about the state of their beloved league and what the possible consequences of Tuesday’s decision might be, the largest most successful sportsbook on the web, Bet US.com has once again beaten everyone to the punch and come to their aid with odds and predictions of possible outcomes.

“With all of the traffic we’ve had since the announcement on Tuesday, one thing is very, very clear,” stated BetUS.com spokesman Reed Richards.  “Fans are sick and tired of being put through the ringer.  It’s simply not fair to ask them to wait with bated breath for three seasons wondering if there’ll be a lockout at the start of each.  As such, we’re putting all of our predictive and analytical prowess on the line in order to give them some semblance of what might happen.”

Stanley Cup Finals Pittsburgh Penguins vs Red Wings

One of the most anticipated Stanley Cup Finals in recent years begins Saturday, when the Pittsburgh Penguins travel to Detroit to begin the final leg in the quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup against the Red Wings. The National Hockey League is probably still smiling about having Sidney Crosby and Evengi Malkin square off against Henrik Zetterberg, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Pavel Datsyuk.
The Red Wings are -155 favorites to win the best-of-7 game series, meaning bettors will risk $155 to win $100 on Detroit, while the Penguins are +135, so that bettors will risk $100 to win $135 on Pittsburgh.

The Penguins are the sexy pick to win the series by wise guys and the public alike, who feel that Pittsburgh has too much firepower for the Red Wings, and there’s some merit to that line of thinking, especially when you throw a Marian Hossa and a Jordan Staal, who is playing like he did during his rookie season.

The Red Wings have plenty of offensive firepower of their own, in Datsyuk and Zetterberg, along with a second and third line more than capable of getting some goals. Johan Franzen is expected to miss at least the first game of the series, and while it’s predicted he will return, there are some rumors floating about that says his injury is more serious than Detroit is letting on.

Defense Wins Championships

If you’ve followed sports for any length of time, the saying “Defense Wins Championships” is probably one you’re familiar with and no team in the NHL has a better defense than the Red Wings. With Lidstrom and Brian Rafalski the Wings have the best defensive pairing in the league, and players like Datsyuk and Zetterberg are so underrated defensively it’s almost criminal.

The Red Wings are solid on the penalty kill, while the Penguins have scored 16 of their 51 playoff goals with the man advantage. Detroit also has five short-handed goals in the playoffs, as the team likes to forecheck and pressure the opposition even when killing penalties, so the Wings get the nod in special teams, as just the threat of being able to score short-handed may keep Pittsburgh from an all-out attack.

More hockey betting guide and tips…

Marc-Andre Fleury and Chris Osgood have both been brilliant during the playoffs and both are about to face their most difficult task of the postseason. While Fleury enjoyed a solid second half of the season, Osgood was steady all season long and more importantly, has the big game experience that Fleury lacks. Look for the Red Wings to crash the net hard and make life miserable for the Pittsburgh netminder.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are going to be hoisting the Stanley Cup in the near future, but I don’t believe it’s going to be this year. The Red Wings have too much depth and experience not to get the job done if they come to play and can avoid further injuries.

I always hate to lay odds of -155, but in this case, I’ll make an exception, as I expect Detroit to win in six games.

Analysis: Don’t even bother to drag this pick out since everyone knows that World No. 2 Rafael Nadal is the clear-cut favorite to win this tournament. While you can pick ‘Rafa’ to win the whole thing, I also believe several other players will be big money-makers for online tennis bettors, before eventually bowing out.

Bettors will be looking at a semifinal quartet featuring Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer, who is also the dark horse player to win the entire 2008 French Open tournament.

Mikhail Youzhny, Nikolai Davydenko and another player not on this list, Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, are also going to be money-makers for bettors in this tournament, with Tsonga actually having an outside chance to reach the semis.

In the end, The world’s top two players, Federer and Nadal to meet in the finals with ‘Rafa’ going on to win his fourth consecutive French Open title, the only grand slam title he may be capable of winning.

Online Tennis Odds Grand Prix Hassan QF Picks

The quarterfinal tennis odds for the Grand Prix Hassan II are currently available in our Online Tennis Odds. From a strong French contingent competing in Casablanca, Marc Gicquel and Gilles Simon confirmed their berths in the final eight after both won their respective second round encounters. With this last sports betting opportunity to bet on some fine players at BetUS Sportsbook, before the 2008 French Open kicks off next week, here is a look at this all-French affair in the Grand Prix Hassan quarterfinal, complete with tennis odds, online betting lines and free tennis picks.

Grand Prix Hassan II Tennis Betting Line: Marc Gicquel +125 Gilles Simon -165

Match Time: 06:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday, May 22, 2008

Head-to-head Analysis: Lifetime, Marc Gicquel and Gilles Simon are level 1-1. Gicquel beat Simon way back in 2004 in Metz, France (hard), Meanwhile, Gilles Simon defeated Gicquel last year at the ATP Masters Series in Hamburg.

Marc Gicquel (+125) No. 59 Marc Gicquel has had a quiet season this year, posting a lowly 7-9 mark in tournament play. However, he enjoyed a standout performance in Estoril, where he reached the quarterfinal, losing to Nikolay Davydenko. Moving to the challenger circuit to find his form, he reached the quarterfinal in Bordeaux last week. Gicquel lists hard courts (indoor especially) as his favourite surface.

Gilles Simon (-165) No. 36 Gilles Simon enters with a 15-12 mark for the year. In Hamburg and Rome, Simons reached the second round of both Masters Series events and in Estoril he reached the second round as well. On clay, he owns a 3-3 record. Simon favours hard court surfaces.

Grand Prix Hassan II Tennis Prediction: This matchup is a bit of a derby. Neither player owns a decided surface advantage. Nor has either player enjoyed a particularly exceptional overall season or a clay court swing. However, with this largely considered a warm-up event for the French Open and the playing field significantly weaker compared to last week’s Masters Series in Hamburg, then Simon is the better play. He competed in both events and with more success on the ATP, he should come through as the favourite in this matchup.

Grand Prix Hassan II Tennis Free Picks: Simon in straight sets

Sports Betting Discussion and Tips

One of the most common misconceptions about sports betting, or any form of gambling, is that it is only the losers who have problems as a result of their gambling activities. Nothing could be farther from the truth. While those who habitually lose money have a different set of problems which arise from financial concerns, a number of sports gamblers, including those who break-even or even show a profit, will find their sports betting to be a disruptive force in their family life.

A primary reason is the amount of time sports betting occupies a person. This doesn’t mean handicapping the games, or the process in which a person places their bets, which is where a bettor should spend the most time, but instead usually involves watching the games on television all night.

When that’s done on a daily basis, it’s easy to see how a person’s spouse could become a little upset.

One of the things many sports bettors need to admit is that whether they watch the game on television or not will have no bearing on the final outcome. It’s not as though the Lakers are going to call a timeout and say, “Well, Bob turned the television off so there’s no point in trying anymore.”

Along the same lines, the final score will still be the same, regardless if you get it online immediately after the contest, from watching ESPN, or from the morning paper. You don’t have to spend every night staying glued to the TV or in front of the computer. Take a night or two off and spend it with your family or friends. You’ll all feel better about it.

Hiding Your Betting

I’m constantly amazed by the number of people who hide their sports betting activities from their spouse. Such an act is a disaster waiting to happen and in many cases the bettor will eventually lose much more than their football sports bets. They’ll lose their family as well.

A person hiding their sports gambling from their spouse is usually doing so because the spouse believes they can’t afford to lose the money that is wagered. If that’s the case, the bettor needs to ask themselves if they are betting too much or if they should even be betting at all. If a bettor realizes they shouldn’t be betting, but can’t help themselves, then it’s time to consider getting help with their gambling habit. I’m not an expert on compulsive gambling, but I do know enough to recognize some of the symptoms, and betting when you know you shouldn’t is certainly one of them.

Looking to Make the Fortune or Getting Rich

Another avenue in which young sports bettors tend to lose perspective is in the size of their wagers. Far too many bettors are constantly betting more than should be, although the proliferation of online sports gambling has helped to a minor extent, as bettors may only wager the amount of money they have in their account.

Those betting on credit through an illegal bookie are more prone to wagering excessive amounts, especially in the beginning of a new week, as they believe they have five or six days to get even if they should happen to lose money. Bettors who normally place $200 wagers will often find themselves betting $500 or more on a game when the new week begins, which again, is a disaster in the works.

One piece of advice sports bettors should take note of is Lem Banker’s saying, “Bet not what you want to win, but what you can afford to lose.” That goes hand-in-hand with another piece of good advice, which says if your sports betting winnings or losings are going to change the quality of your lifestyle, you’re probably betting too much.

Many sports bettors don’t realize that if they’re betting on a game for enjoyment purposes, it can be just as fun with a $20 wager on a game as it is with a $400 wager. The main difference is a bit less anxiety, and if a bettor really needs that anxiety, they probably shouldn’t be gambling in the first place.

What SportsBetting Should Be

The main reason a person should bet on sports is for enjoyment. If they happen to make a bit of money at the same time, that’s great, but the amount of people who will show a longterm profit in sports betting is extremely small.

For many people, discussing sports betting is essentially a hobby and something they do because they enjoy watching an occasional game with a few dollars placed on the outcome. If they lose, that’s fine with them, since just about every hobby will cost money. These are the type of people who probably get more from sports betting than anybody else, even those few people who make a living from it. Hopefully, you fall into this category.

It’s when sports betting begins to take on added importance in a person’s life that they need to be aware of what is happening and realize that they may have a gambling problem. If sports betting is causing problems in a person’s personal life, it’s time to make a change and if a person is unable to change on their own, perhaps it’s time to do so with some help.

Nascar All-Star Weekend 2008

Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews, Events — Tags: , — admin @ 7:56 pm

This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup stars will celebrate the sport’s best teams and drivers with the 2008 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

The festivities begin on Friday which is NASCAR Day. NASCAR fans will be able to show their NASCAR pride and their hearts by participating in NASCAR Day fundraising events. Friday night brings qualifying for the All-Star Race and the Craftsman Truck Series race. Saturday’s activities include the Pennzoil Victory Challenge, the Sprint Showdown last-chance qualifying race and finally the Sprint All-Star Race.

Kyle Busch, who leads NASCAR’s standings for the Sprint Cup championship, is finally getting respect from Las Vegas oddsmakers. The 23-year-old Busch is listed as a 6-1 favorite to win Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards also are listed at 6-1, according to Linesmaker.com.

Busch leads the standings with 1,690 points, 79 ahead of Jeff Burton, 134 ahead of Earnhardt and 190 ahead of Hamlin. But this week’s All-Star Race will not count toward the Sprint Cup standings.

This is a great weekend to be a NASCAR fan!

Soccer Betting Chelsea vs Manchester United

The English Premier League is usually a done deal in terms of the champion by this point, but amazingly Chelsea and Manchester United are still both in with a shot of lifting the trophy.

Manchester United won its second straight Soccer Betting Premier League title on Sunday, defeating Wigan 2-0. United was tied with Chelsea in points but had a big goal difference edge and just needed a win to clinch the title. Chelsea ended up playing to a 1-1 draw with Bolton and finished two points behind.

Both teams are, with only one game left to play, exactly even on points; only Manchester United’s superior goal difference edges them in to the lead. If they draw or lose at Wigan on Sunday and Chelsea can beat Bolton (or draw if Manchester United lose) then the Blues will take the crown again.

Those of you who placed bets on Chelsea or the Red Devils winning nothing at the start of the season will be feeling the tension, but it’s not too late if you’ve not gone to the bookies yet – Pinnacle are offering the best odds if you want to pick a winner at the last minute, with Man U at 3/14 and Chelsea at 70/17 to snatch victory at the last minute.

NBA Playoffs Betting - New Orleans Hornets vs. San Antonio Spurs

The defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs are back in their series against the New Orleans Hornets after winning Game 3 and will now try and even things up in Game 4 on Sunday. Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili scored 31 points each and Tim Duncan had 16 points and 13 rebounds in the Spurs 110-99 win on Thursday. “We know that going 3-0 - it’s never been done to come back like that,” said Ginobili, “Today, for us, it was a Game 7. We knew if we didn’t win today, it was almost over. So we had a different approach. We played with more passion, more edge.”   The Spurs will now try and take the next step and even the series.

SBGGlobal.com reports that early NBA betting has the public taking Spurs at Home.

Chris Paul had 35 point and nine assists while David West had 23 points and 12 rebounds in Game 3 for the Hornets.  New Orleans had their chance in the fourth quarter but missed wide open shots and the Spurs pulled away. “You got to give them a lot of credit,” Hornets coach Byron Scott said, “I thought they played a lot more aggressive tonight. A lot more physical. Basically kind of took us right out of our game. I thought we lost our composure tonight a little bit as well.” The Spurs didn’t contain Paul but they did hold Stojakovic to only eight points. “Chris is going to score regardless. He’s got the ball in his hands every single time. Every single play it’s Chris Paul,” said Parker, “He’s going to score. So we decided to put Bruce (Bowen) on Peja and at least hold somebody down because Peja was killing us.”

Current Odds: Spurs  - 5.5, Total  186

Here are the NBA betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Hornets are 43-21-1 ATS in their last 65 games overall. The Hornets are 21-11 ATS in their last 32 games as an underdog.

The Spurs are 15-3-2 ATS in their last 20 playoff games as a favorite. The Spurs are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a home favorite. The home team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams and the favorite is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings.

The Over is 8-1-1 in the Hornets last 10 Conference Semifinals games. The Under is 4-2 in the Hornets last 6 road games. The Over is 8-3 in the Hornets last 11 games as a road underdog.

The Over is 5-1 in the Spurs last 6 games as a favorite. The Over is 8-2-1 in the Spurs last 11 overall. The Over is 13-5-1 in the Spurs last 19 Conference Semifinals games. The Over is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in San Antonio between the two teams.
