Miss May 2010 Chosen At BetUS.com!

BetUS.com proclaimed that former Pro Volley Ball player Isabel Cristina Estrada from Columbia; is Miss May 2010.  Perhaps you fail to recognize the name; but wait until you see what you’ve been missing.  This Colombian bombshell won “Miss Congeniality” when she entered the Miss Columbia contest in 2001.

A brief 7 years later in 2008; her legion of crazed fans in Columbia chose her as the countries sexiest actress; with the sexiest body.  Even with all of these acclamations; the former systems analyst for IBM; managed to remain grounded.

Isabel is not afraid of anything.  She loves competition.  She even entered and won Columbia’s version of “The Amazing Race.”  With a “can do” attitude this Colombian beauty has paved a remarkable road for herself.  Her willingness to accept a challenge, take risks and bet on her future with confidence; makes Isabel Cristina Estrada an excellent choice for BetUS.com Miss May 2010.

We hail Isabel’s choice for Miss May; because we love her fire, her desire to take chances in her pursuit of happiness.  We all hold dear; the capability to take chances; the ability to bet on the long shot; to reap the rewards.  It is certainly true; that the biggest risks we take in life; are the ones we never take at all.  Until we meet again; may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The Cavaliers Continue To Click

Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews, Contests, NBA Basketball — Tags: , , , — Will Curl @ 12:59 pm

Thursday night the Cleveland Cavaliers rolled into Boston to take on the Celtics with a monkey on their back.  They had lost 9 straight in Boston including the playoffs.  The Celtics lead their division are still a major force to reckon with in the NBA.  The Cavaliers are 45-14 this season and are number one in the Eastern Conference.  The Celtics are 36-20 and are tied for 3rd over all with the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference playoff race.  Cleveland came into town 19-10 on the road.  They desperately wanted to make it 20.

The game began with the Celtics showing why they are one of the most famous franchises in the NBA.  Things even looked worse for the the Cavaliers when O’Neil hurt his thumb in the second quarter.  The losing streak in Boston seemed destined to become 10 and then Cleveland woke up in the second half and outscored Boston 60-32.  LaBron James ended up with 36 points and the Cavaliers won their 20th away game and snapped the 9 game losing streak in Boston 108-88.

The Cavaliers wound up sinking 10 of their last 13 baskets showing Boston that Cleveland could still click.  It is hard to imagine anything but a Cavaliers-Lakers Finals match up but stranger things have happened.  Cleveland has yet to get over that final hump and prove they are the best in the NBA.  This could be the year that they do.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

NFL Season Kicks Off Tonight! The Steelers vs The Titans

Initially I was going to write about the upcoming college football match ups for this weekend but this NFL game tonight is just too darn big to ignore. Yes, it is the first game of the season but have no doubt in your mind that this game is huge.

The World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers became the first NFL team to win 6 Super Bowls last February. The Tennessee Titans beat the Steelers late last season fairly easily but fell in the playoffs to the Ravens. This rematch, although the first game of the season is critical to both of these teams.

I am not saying if either team loses their season is over. What I am saying is that it is important to get off on the right foot. Both of these teams are expected to be in the thick of the race for the AFC Championship. Both of these teams would like to establish early that they are the team to reckon with. There is very little love loss between these two teams as well. The Titans enhanced that dislike by stomping a terrible towel into the dirt angering many Steeler fans and players as well.

Both of these teams are credible contenders in the AFC. Tennessee Coach Jeff Fisher has put together a team that could finally take him all the way. The defense is solid even without Albert Haynesworth. The offense is still efficient under Kerry Collins and running back Chris Johnson. It all looks good on paper…but can they beat the Steelers on opening day in Pittsburgh?

The Pittsburgh Steelers, although being the only team to win 6 Super Bowls, rarely earn the respect due them by sports critics. The Steelers are simply to low key to provide the excitement and press nightmares that most teams deliver. The Steelers and Pittsburgh were made for each other.

They are the working class football team. No flair, No hype. The Steelers simply go to work each Sunday and do their job and quietly stack up Super Bowls. After the Steelers won the Super Bowl after the 1995 season they only managed an 8-8 record in 2006. This weighs heavy on the minds of Steeler fans. Can this year be different?

Tonight many answers to these questions will be established. I can think of no better game, no better match up to begin the 2009 season. The Titans have talked the talk in an effort to convince themselves of their ability. Tonight they will have a chance to walk that talk.

Many truths will be confronted in Pittsburgh tonight. I said on Monday that the Steelers will win 20-13. I stand by that prediction. One thing for sure it should be one heck of a game. Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The FedEx Cup Month Long Golf Tournament Begins Thursday!

Thursday, August 27th, the Pro Golf Playoffs begin in search of the FedEx Cup and the Ten Million Dollar reward that waits at the end of the 4 week tournament. The battle begins at the Barclays. 124 of the best Pro Golfers will begin in the competition. This will include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh. There is much discussion about these playoffs and where they should rank in importance compared to a Major Tournament. Every Pro Golfer has their own opinion.

Many feel like a Major is more important because they have been around for so much longer. Others feel like this 4 week playoffs for the FedEx Cup brings the best field together for the longest period of time. In addition, the ten million dollar reward is nothing to laugh at either.

The 4 week playoffs begin at the Barclays in Jersey City, New Jersey the first week. The second week will have the top 100 moving on to the TPC Boston for the Deutsche Bank Championship. Week 3 of the playoffs will be held at Cog Hill, which is located just outside Chicago.

Here the top 70 players to that point will compete in the BMW Championship. The top 30 players will then meet in Atlanta for the final competition for the FedEx Cup and ten million dollars. It is hard enough to play well against a great field in a one week tournament; it is even harder to do so for a month. The excitement is definately building.

There is one thing the Pro Golfers do agree on when it cups to winning the FedEx Cup. They all agree that you will not see just anybody win it. During a one week Major Championship every once in a while a golfer comes out of no where to snatch it away like Y.E. Yang did at the PGA Championship over Tiger Woods. However, this is not likely to happen in these playoffs. The name that you will see on this Championship Cup will be a well known seasoned golfer.

Y.E. Yang deserves all the credit for winning the PGA Championship but it takes pure greatness to play better than anyone else in the field for 4 straight weeks. Perhaps Yang will surprise again but it is not likely. The FedEx Cup was created to allow the best golfers in the world to compete in a playoff system that is as grueling and competitive as any tournament imaginable. This is a tournament that seperates the men from the boys, the flukes from the real deal. One good week will not do it, two great weeks will not help you; even three great weeks can leave you empty handed. You have to play well in all 4 weeks.

Tiger Woods won the first FedEx Cup but even he will have to play his best for all 4 weeks. This tournament is not for the meek at heart. So who do you put your money one? It is going to be tough but lets face it, Tiger Woods is favored whenever he starts a tournament. Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The Sportsbook Gazette Weekly Sports Roundup!

In Akron, Ohio at the Bridgestone Invitational Tiger Woods trails Padraig Harrington by three strokes.  Harrington was feeling pretty comfortable until he looked up at the scoreboard and realized that Tiger was in second place.  Tiger has been almost unbeatable at Firestone and Harrington is well aware of it.  Harrington wanted to have the best lead possible going into Sunday but he knows there may not be a safe lead over the number one golfer in the world.  Tomorrow should really be interesting.  Tiger has won 6 out of 10 times playing at Firestone and he would like to make it 7 of 11.  Harrington and Woods will be paired up in the same group and it should be a great finish.

UFC 101 is about to begin and there are some pretty good matches tonight.  B.J. Penn is taking on Kenny Florian and is the favorite to win.  Anderson Silva is facing Forrest Griffin and is a huge favorite to win this one.  Johny Hendricks is set to battle Amir Sadollah with Sadollah picked to win.  There are quite a few less known contests but the Penn fight and Silva fight will get all the attention.  Anderson Silva should beat Griffin as long as he does not get to cocky and Penn should have no real problem with Kenny Florian but as with any competition you just don’t know until it is over.

The College Football polls came out today with a list of the top ten NCAA teams in the country.  The list goes as follows:  Florida at number 1, Texas at number 2, Oklahoma at number 3 and USC at number 4.  Alabama rounded out the top 5.  Ohio State came in at number 6 with Virginia Tech at number 7.  Number 8 was Penn State with LSU and Mississippi rounded out the top ten.  It is going to be another great NCAA Football season.

In the NFL the Hall of Fame Game will be played on Sunday between the Buffalo Bills and the Tennessee Titans.  This event kicks off the NFL preseason and I can feel the excitement building.  The NFL season is upon us again and it should be a lot of fun.  There are going to be some great match ups and we will keep you posted on them all season long.  There may be some surprises in the NFL this year like Arizona in 2008.  Betters be ready because it is going to be a great season.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and may you always remember to be a good sport.

UFC 101 Silva Takes On Griffin

The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is becoming more popular each and everyday.  Mixed martial arts contests have been going on for many decades but the UFC has taken it to an entirely different level.  In my youth I was a Bruce Lee fan and to this day I have still yet to see a mixed martial artist of his caliber but the UFC could have come from his own imagination.

The UFC pitts two competitors against each other inside a cage.  The blood that spills in these fights is real.  The bruises and bumps are real and when someone is put in a choke hold the danger of them passing out is real.  There is nothing fake about the UFC.  When you watch these fights you know that most every fighter will enter that ring and fight with intensity and determination lacking in other areas.

UFC 101 on Saturday promises to be more of the same.  Middleweight Anderson Silva will take on Forrest Griffin in a fight that promises fireworks in dramatic fashion.  Griffin is a straight ahead fighter who does not back off and refuses to quit until you make him quit.  Silva has been a monster in the cage but appears to lose his intensity if a competitor does not show it as well.

He won’t have that problem with Forrest Griffin.  Forrest Griffin may very well lose this fight but it will not be for the lack of trying and that is where the UFC is different.  Just because you lose a fight does not mean you lack respect.  The fans love a good fight and they remember those who provided it for them win or lose.

Anderson Silva has a knee that loves to catch aggressive fighters coming in.  If Griffin can avoid that knee he stands a fair chance.  Anderson may be one of the best pound for pound fighters in the UFC and Griffin may have one of the biggest fighting hearts.

Griffin has a 16-5 record in the UFC but he is still very respected for his intensity.  Silva had to pack on 20 pounds to fight Griffin.  This should not take anything away from his dominate personality.  This fight will definately be a good one and that is why the UFC expects to pick up one million units for this pay per view fight.

Anderson Silva is going to be the favorite in this fight.  Griffin will find himself in a familiar underdog role.  Never the less when this contest begins sparks will fly and the fans will be on their feet and in the UFC anything is possible.  One thing you can almost certainly guarantee is that this fight will not go the distance.  This will be a slugfest.

Bet your money wisely on this one.  Expect the unexpected but you know where the odds lay in this one.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

Tiger Woods Brings The Buick Open Alive With A Victory!

Tiger Woods won the Buick Open in Michigan by 3 strokes and enhanced the ratings of the tournament by 167%.  Tiger had opened the Buick Open with a less than impressive first round but bounced back to take the victory even thought the field of competition was a little weak to say the least.  The Warwick Hills Golf Course hosted its first Buick Open back in 1958 but by the looks of the ratings it could be their last.  If Tiger Woods had not been there the ratings would have been dismal.  Tiger needed this victory so he could feel good about himself once again.  He needed to rebuild his confidence.  Now he feels ready for the next two tournaments where the road to victory will be a little tougher to drive.

Later this week Tiger will begin play at the Bridgestone Invitational.  From there he ventures on to Hazeline for the PGA Championship.  It will be Tiger’s only opportunity to win a major this year.  The Buick Open win was Tiger’s 3rd victory there and his 69th PGA tour victory.  Tiger knew that the end of an era was taking place as he approached the 17th and 18th holes.  He knew he would not be playing on this course again for a Buick Open.  On both the 17th and 18th holes he threw a ball into the crowd.  He never does that but he felt the irony of the moment.  The Greenbrier in West Virginia will pick up the Buick Open in 2010.

Tiger Woods 69 PGA wins place him 3rd all time behind Jack Nicklaus who had 73 and Sam Snead who had 82.  Tiger has won 4 tournaments this year and that is twice as many as any other pro golfer.  He has won 4 out of 11 since coming back from his knee surgery.  Tiger is still at another level even when he is coming off surgery.  That is why he is still the number one golfer in the world.  At the end of the first round Tiger was 95th.  He ended up taking home the trophy.  It was the biggest jump he has ever made in a tournament.

So how will Tiger fare at the Bridgestone Invitational?  I would be willing to bet that Tiger will be very competitive.  He is finally getting back into his stride.  When Tiger Woods is on his game there is no one in the world who can touch him.  Tiger knows how important these last two tournaments are and he will be up for them.  He cannot afford to start off 95th in the first round of the Bridgestone.  He will have to prove here that he is truly back in stride and back on his game.  Are you willing to bet against him?  Until we meet again may your betting be better and may you remember to always be a good sport.

Brock Lesnar Is The UFC Reigning Heavy Weight Champion!

If you were willing to fork over the money on Saturday night for the UFC 100 pay per view event than you witnessed Brock Lesnars complete destruction of Frank Mir.  This was their second match against one another.  Mir handed Lesnar his only loss when he got him to submit with a leg bar.  There was a lot of talk from both fighters prior to the championship bout.  Mir claimed that he did not respect Lesnar and that his punches resembled a little sister pulling your hair.  Saturday night he ate those words.  Lesnar became the new UFC badboy when he held Mir’s head in his large left hamhocks and continually landed huge right hands onto Mir’s head and face.  Mir kept giving his corner the thumbs up until he was knocked senseless.  Will the real Frank Mir please stand up.

The fight was stopped and Brock Lesnar still stood in Frank Mir’s face.  Brock used both hands to show the crowd in Frank Mir’s town of Las Vegas that he was number one.  Unfortunately he was not using the forefingers.  Regardless of whether or not Lesnar is only 4-1 or 40-1 he destroyed Frank Mir.  He avenged his loss and he did what he said he would do.  Rather he is popular or not makes no difference.  He will laugh all the way too the bank and will take his championship belt with him.  Sure the fans love their heros.  They love that good guy, the knight in shining armor or the cowboy in the white hat but every world needs it’s badboy as well.  There has to be someone for the fans to hate.  Someone they love to see get beat.  Brock Lesnar is that guy.

UFC fans will pay top dollar to see Brock Lesnar fall.  This is a win-win situation for everyone involved.  The question is who will make Lesnar fall.  Who can defeat him at this point?  There are those who believe that Fedor Emelianenko the mad Russian has the best opportunity.  He is 30-1 and has beaten two of the UFCs greatest champions fairly easily in Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski.  The problem is Fedor is signed with a rival promotions outfit.  The UFC fans have been waiting eagerly for his arrival but it is still yet to happen.  After the fight saturday night UFC President Dana White said it will happen and that the big fight between Lesnar and Fedor will become a reality eventually.

It is hard to say if Lesnar will remain the champion that long or not.  Chances are he will if he continues to work on his ground game and tightens up his game.  Like Lesnar or not he is the champion and will be around for a while.  He adds excitement to an laready extremely exciting sport.  He brings that badboy image with fire and smoke into the cage with vigor and passion.  He will fight in more pay per view events and everyone will reap the benefits.  The odds are in his favor.  Until we meet again good betting and remember to always be a good sport.

The Sports Book Gazette Weekly Roundup!

The At&t National Golf Tournament is being played at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.  Someone shot a 4 under 66 for the lowest 36 hole score ever on this course.  That someone was none other than Tiger Woods.  Tiger holds a pretty impressive record when he is leading or sharing a lead at this stage of the game.  He is 31-6 in these situations and has won his last 11 dating clear back to 2004.  Defending Champion Anthony KIm had shot a record 62 in the first round but has fallen back to 2 shots behind Tiger.  Rod Pampling and Jim Furyk rounded out the top 4.

At the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament the final on Sunday will be between the Swiss Roger Federer and the American Andy Roddick.  If Federer can pull it off he will win his record breaking 15th Grand Slam.  Federer defeated Tommy Haas today 7-6, 7-5, 6-3.  Andy Roddick on the other hand knocked off the British darling Andy Murray ending Britains hopes for a Wimbledon Champion for the first time since 1936.  Roddick defeated Murray 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 leaving the British fans a little dazed and saddened but now he must turn his attention to Roger Federer and see if he has enough left to stop history in the making.

In Major League Baseball the Boston Red Sox still lead the New York Yankee’s by 2 games in the American League East.  In the AL Central the Detroit Tigers lead the Chicago White Sox by 2 games as well.  In the AL West the Los Angeles Angels are only holding off the Texas Rangers by a half a game.  In the National League East the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies are ahead of the Florida Marlins by 1 game.  In the NL Central the St. Louis Cardinals lead the Milwaukee Brewers by a game.  The biggest lead in the majors is held by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West where they lead the San Francisco Giants by 7 and a half games.

In October there will be another professional Football League starting in the United States.  It will be called the United Football League and will feature 4 teams from Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York and Orlando.  That league has already said the if former Atlanta Falcon Quarterback Michael Vick can evade anymore legal problems they will welcome him to play in their league.  Vicks future with the NFL is still up in the air.  It looks like Brent Farve will be the Quarterback in Minnesota this year.  Could he win the Super Bowl there and then possible, I don’t know…retire?  Would you like a piece of those odds?  Until we meet again good betting and always remember to be a good sport.

Roddick, Federer, Haas, Murray Moving Ahead At Wimbledon

It took Andy Roddick almost 4 hours but after 5 long sets he finally defeated 2002 Wimbledon Champion Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.  Roddick breathed a sigh of relief when he finished this one.  The last time Roddick reached the final four at Wimbledon was back in 2005.  His 43 aces against Hewitt put him there again.  The contest today was easily one of the most exciting sets thus far in the surge for the Wimbledon Title.  Hewitt refusted to go down without a fight.  These two men worked hard both physically and mentally in their quest to move on in the tournament.  In the end Roddick had just a little more than Hewitt could handle and this battle of formal champions concluded with Roddick moving on and Hewitt moving out.

Needless to say the journey for Andy Roddick will not get any easier.  His next foe is 3rd ranked Andy Murray the British hopeful who put away Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 to move on in his search of destiny.  Andy Murray is trying hard to become the first British player to win the Wimbledon Title since way back in 1936.  The battle of Andy and Andy will find a lot of the British fans rooting for their guy but Andy Roddick says he will take it all in stride.  After all he said he would use it too his advantage because when the call out Andy he will pretend they are rooting for him.

Friday #2 seed Roger Federer takes on #24 seed Tommy Haas.  Tommy will have the chance to prevent Roger Federer from winning that record breaking 15th Grand Slam.  He knows it is going to be a long hard road.  Roger defeated #22 seed Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 7-5, 7-6 to move on to face Haas.  Haas proved that rankings mean very little as he defeated #4 seed Novak Djokovic 7-5, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.  Andy Roddick and Tommy Haas have never gotten this far at Wimbledon before.  They are trying to treasure the moment and maintain their poise as they move on against the big guns.

So we will have an American, Britain, Swiss and German in the final 4 at Wimbledon.  Fans have long predicted and expected the final to be between the Britain Andy Murray and the Swiss Roger Federer.  They are favored.  The American Andy Roddick and the German Tommy Haas will do their best to upset the odds.  These men are exactly where they want to be.  This is what they practice so hard too do.  There is plenty of excetement left before the dust clears and a new Wimbledon Champion is crowned.  Who are you betting on?  Are you sure?  Until we meet again good betting and remember to always be a good sport.
