Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews, Events — Tags: , — admin @ 7:56 pm

This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup stars will celebrate the sport’s best teams and drivers with the 2008 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

The festivities begin on Friday which is NASCAR Day. NASCAR fans will be able to show their NASCAR pride and their hearts by participating in NASCAR Day fundraising events. Friday night brings qualifying for the All-Star Race and the Craftsman Truck Series race. Saturday’s activities include the Pennzoil Victory Challenge, the Sprint Showdown last-chance qualifying race and finally the Sprint All-Star Race.

Kyle Busch, who leads NASCAR’s standings for the Sprint Cup championship, is finally getting respect from Las Vegas oddsmakers. The 23-year-old Busch is listed as a 6-1 favorite to win Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards also are listed at 6-1, according to Linesmaker.com.

Busch leads the standings with 1,690 points, 79 ahead of Jeff Burton, 134 ahead of Earnhardt and 190 ahead of Hamlin. But this week’s All-Star Race will not count toward the Sprint Cup standings.

Kansas wins 2008 NCAA championship

The San Antonio Alamodome rocked with Jayhawk fans as the Memphis Tigers went cold in the last minutes of overtime play, missing several key free throws and losing the NCAA championship to the Kansas Jayhawks.
Memphis all but had the game wrapped up with two minutes to go in regulation with a 60-51 lead. But the Jayhawks rallied back and tied the game with 2.1 seconds left after a miracle play by Sherron Collins and Mario Chalmers. With a few seconds to go, a falling Collins got the ball to Chalmers at the top of key who hit nothing but net and tied the game at 63.

The Jayhawks’ strategy in overtime was to foul the nation’s worst free throw-shooting team and crank out three-point shots.

Memphis was absolutely exhausted in the final minutes of the game. They could either cover under the net, or challenge the shooter beyond the three-point line. They chose the former, and the unchallenged three-point shots did them in.

Memphis already ran many of their opponents into the ground when they came into this final game with a 38-1 record.

Kansas became the Big 12’s first men’s basketball national champion in the conference’s 12-year history.
