Did The Heat Just Purchase A Future Championship?

Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews, NBA Basketball — Tags: , — Will Curl @ 4:05 pm

On July 8th LeBron James announced live on ESPN that he was leaving the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers for South Beach and Pat Rileys Miami Heat.  LeBron decided to join the Heat with two of his friends; in what he hopes is the key to the NBA Championship that has been just out of his reach.

The media is having a field day with this one.  The city of Akron, Ohio could very well disown their home town hero; if they think continue to believe he deserted them.  In an area where people placed James one step below a God; anything could happen.

Obviously, Cleveland Owner Dan Gilbert is less than happy.  He found out a few minutes before James announcement aired that he was losing his star; but in reality, the writing has been on the wall for quite some time.  LeBron was not happy in Cleveland.

There will be mixed opinions on this move for decades.  With former Olympic team mates Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade waiting for him in Miami; James was drawn to join the trio in hopes of that Championship Dream, and of course a few extra dollars as well.

Pat Riley, the President of the Miami Heat, already has 5 Championship rings and he would like to add a few more before his Hall of Fame career is over.  Now, in a move that would make even the New York Yankees blush, Riley has assembled a team that can do it.

Being a Ohio boy myself; I also have mixed feelings about LeBron and the move to Miami.  For whatever reason, Cleveland did not win a Championship with LeBron.  Perhaps there is blame for that on both sides; or maybe they just were not good enough as a team.

There is very little loyalty in sports today.  It is a business and it is all about making money.  For that reason, I cannot fault LeBron for making the move he thought was right for him.  Do I think Miami just bought a future Championship?  I don’t believe that is guaranteed.  Talent alone does not always bring a ring.

Miami has certainly provided themselves with a competitive edge.  It was a great move for the franchise; if it pays off.  I don’t know that the Lakers are shaking in their shoes.  I would not bet on it. Until we meet again; may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The King On Clay: Nadal Wins French Open

On June 6, 2010, the 66th anniversary of D-Day, Rafael Nadal led a successful invasion of his own.  Nadal defeated Robin Soderling 6-4, 6-2, and 6-4 to win his 5th French Open title.  The King on Clay displayed his wizardry with keen skill and precision; as he picked a part his foe from Sweden.

If anyone had any questions about Nadal’s knees; they should have them no longer.  He moved swiftly and fluently and did not show any signs of ill effect from last years surgery.  There was no doubt that Soderling was playing a different Nadal then the one he surprisingly defeated in the French Open last year.  Nadal never looked better.

Nadal will now be chasing his 6th French Open title so as to tie the record held by Bjorn Borg.  However, that is a year away.  Now he is off to London in pursuit of another achievement; winning his second Wimbledon Championship; which begins on June 21st.  He won his first there in 2008.

Nadal, the Pride of Spain, accomplished something else with his win at the French Open.  He reclaimed the honor of being the #1 ranked tennis player in the world.  All I can say is, “Look out Wimbledon; Nadal is coming.”  Until we meet again; may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

In other sporting news; the Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2 last night to tie the NBA Finals at 1-1.  Don’t count the old boys out just yet.

Lakers And Celtics Facing Off In The Finals

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics are one of the biggest rivalry’s in the NBA and they are facing each other right this minute in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.  The rivalry goes back to the days of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.  Tonight it is Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce.

These two teams have won over 50% of the 64 NBA Championships.  That is quite impressive.  The Celtics hold a 17-15 Title edge over the Lakers.  The Lakers routed Orlando last year to win their 15th but they were sent home packing the year before by the Celtics in 6 games as Boston won their 17th.

Obviously this series means a lot to both teams.  Boston is aging quickly with Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett looking for one more Championship.  Right now at the Staple Center in Los Angeles; the fight has begun.

This rivalry, which began with the Dave Cowens and Bill Russel era; is still as hot as ever.  The Lakers are 8-0 at home during the playoffs so the Celtics will have their work cut out for them.  The Lakers look strong; but don’t count out the Celtics, they still have some fight left.  Many experts pick the Lakers to win this in 7; but I think it will be the Celtics who prevail.  You can bet on that.  Until we meet again; may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

Suns And Lakers Battleling In Game 6 Tonight

With less than 3 minutes in the first half the Los Angeles Lakers are leading the Phoenix Suns 56-47.  It the Lakers can hold on for the victory they will move on to the NBA Finals to face their all to familiar foe, the Boston Celtics who sent the Orlando packing last night.

Ron Artest who was the hero for the Lakers in game 5 has 17 points already.  Steve Nash of the Suns has 10.  The Suns cannot afford to give up in this one.  They blew every one away in game 5 by coming way back to make it interesting although the Lakers came away with a 103-101 victory.

The Lakers may very well pull this one out and if they do; they will more than likely slide by the tiring Celtics for another championship.  However, they have to get by Phoenix tonight first and Steve Nash proclaimed that the Suns would force a game 7.

The Suns are looking like the little train that could but the Lakers size has been a tremendous advantage.  This should be another big finish that you don’t want to miss.  Kobe Bryant leads the series 3-2, but does he have enough for one more.  If you ask Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson, they will say yes.  Until we meet again, may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

Suns Back To LA For Game 5 on 27 May

Tomorrow night the Phoenix Suns travel back to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers in game 5 of the NBA Western Conference Finals.  The series is tied at 2 a piece after the Suns received respected bench support last night as they reeled off a 115-106 victory.

The Lakers won the first 2 games in the series at home and then the Suns bounced back to win their next 2 games at home.  For those weary fans who had already counted the Suns out and bought tickets for the Lakers-Celtics rematch; just a reminder, it’s not over until its over.

The Lakers Kobe Bryant had 38 points but it was not enough to give his team that 3-1 advantage they had envisioned as they returned home.  Kobe is normally good for a third of the Lakers production and they do put points on the board but unless you play defense it is all for not.

The Suns are the best 3 point shooting team in the league and they proved that once again on last night.  A bench full of media declared misfits stood up and gave notice last night that the Suns would not go down without a fight.  Yes, the Suns have finally built a solid team around Steve Nash but they will not find it easy playing in LA tomorrow night.

Who will win tomorrow night?  The destiny bound Lakers or the misfits from Phoenix?  This is a huge game for both teams.  The Lakers cannot afford to lose at home and then travel to Phoenix for game 6.  The Suns would like nothing better to go home for game 6 with a 3-2 lead.  You can bet there will be fireworks in LA tomorrow night.  The odds are with the Lakers but the Suns may surprise.  Until we meet again, may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The Lakers and the Suns to Clash May 17th

Monday night the best in the west meet up in Los Angeles as the Los Angeles Lakers host the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Western Conference Finals.  The winner of this best of 7 series will move on to the NBA Finals to take or either the Boston Celtics or the Orlando Magic for the Championship.

The Lakers finished the regular season with a record of 57-25 and then eliminated the Utah Jazz in 4 straight semi-final games.  The Suns went 54-28 in the regular season and also eliminated the San Antonio Spurs in 4 games.  Now these two NBA giants clash tonight to see who will get off on the right start.

The Lakers are led by non other than Kobe Bryant.  Kobe appears to be poised to lead Los Angeles to a Championship repeat.  The Suns are guided by Steve Nash, one of the purest passers to ever play in the NBA.  This year Phoenix finally assembled a team around Nash that shows some sign of greatness.  Could this be their year?

Steve Nash has played in more post season games (113); without making it to the NBA finals; than any other player in NBA History.  To make matters appear disheartening; the Lakers won 3 out of 4 meetings during the regular season.  Although the reigning Champion Lakers are favored by most to move onto the NBA Finals; most agree it will take 6 or 7 games to do it.

This will definitely be speed/opportunity versus size/experience.  This is a great match up.  The Suns will have to run the court and take advantage of every opportunity if they have any hopes of dethroning the Champs.  This series is going to be exciting.  You don’t want to miss it.  The odds are with the Lakers and that would be the wise bet.  They start off in LA as well.  That makes the Lakers a pretty good bet for tonight.  Until we meet again, may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

May 13th Brings Game 6: James Must Put up or Shut up!

For the last 2 NBA seasons the Cleveland Cavaliers have won more games than any other team in the league.  Last year they were eliminated by Orlando without ever reaching the finals.  Now, after 5 games and a totally embarrassing game last night where they were brutally beaten by Boston 120-88 at home; the Cavs are faced with elimination once again come Thursday night.

This season, self proclaimed King Lebron James seemed poised to finally obtain the elusive NBA title, before boastfully strutting away to free agency.  If he plays another game like Tuesday night when he missed 11 of 14 shots and only mustered 15 points for the evening; then Cleveland may have to wait another 46 years before accomplishing an NBA Championship.

I was born and raised 90 miles from Cleveland.  I am a Cleveland fan.  Like all Cavalier fans I believed LeBron James would be the best hope for an NBA Title.  Now, after 7 years LeBron seems destined to become one of those great athletes who could not win the big game or series.  Do the Cleveland Cavaliers consist of a team or one player?  If they are a team and if King James is a team player; then destiny should be theirs.

However, if James, who seems to take no blame for his part in their situation, is not a team player, then he has certainly opened the doors for the Los Angeles Lakers to repeat.  It is time for James to put up or shut up.  As a player you never know if you will get this close again.  There are great players all over the sports world who would have gladly traded personal statistics for the elusive championship ring.

Thursday night, May 13, 2010, King James will have to preside over his court.  He will have to make the best of his opportunity to seal his career in Cleveland by taking this team to another level.  A great team can win all the regular season games that they want; but if they cannot win the big ones when they count, then they are just another team.  Until we meet again; may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

LeBron James Joins Elite List! Wins 2nd Straight MVP

LeBron James joins a list of basketball players that looks like a Hall of Fame roll call as he becomes one of only ten players to win the NBA MVP two years in a row.  The other players that reached that plateau were Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Moses Malone, Larry Bird, Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan and Steve Nash.

Click Here Now! Bet now at SBGGlobal.com!

Of those players only 3 have won the MVP 3 years in a row.  That would be Larry Bird, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain.  LeBron has had the best season of his career.  He average 29.7 points during the season and 31.8 points against the Bulls in the first round of the playoffs.

Having a great season alone should not necessarily lead to the MVP but LeBron has proven he is very valuable.  When he set out the final 4 games of the season the Cavs dropped all 4 games.  There is no way the Cavaliers would be the favorite to win the Championship without LeBron.

The Cavs And The Celtics Clash On Saturday

The last time the Cleveland Cavaliers faced the Boston Celtics in the NBA semi finals was in 2008.  The Celtics were on their way to winning the NBA Championship for the 17th time.  That was then; this is now.  The Celtics are aging with their top 3 starters in their 30’s.  On the other hand; they are probably in their best shape of the season.  They are healthier now; but if this one goes down to 7 it could take its toll.

The Cleveland Cavaliers on the other hand finished the season with the best record in the NBA with LeBron James leading the assault.  In the quarter finals the Cavs sent the Bulls packing; while the Celtics disposed of the Miami Heat.

The Cavaliers are on a mission.  This is King James’ last run before free agency and they would like to end it with a bang.  The Cavs feel like this is their year and they are challenging anyone to keep them from the promised land.  LeBron complained of a sore right elbow in the final game against the Bulls and ended up shooting a free throw with his left hand.

LeBron claims he is fine and ready for this crucial match up in the East.  The Cavs will have home court advantage if this one goes to 7.  Don’t count out the Celtics.  They are playing as well as they have all season but they need to win this one in 5 if they can.  If they wait until 7 they may be out of steam.  Until we meet again; may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

Tonight Is The Charlotte Bobcats Last Stand

The Charlotte Bobcats are a young team all things considering.  They had the misfortune of following the Hornets who now play in New Orleans.  The Hornets had a love/hate relationship in Charlotte and now the Bobcats are trying to make their own splash in Carolina history.  Now that home spun hero Michael Jordan is majority owner the Bobcats are finally in the limelight.

NBA online betting

The Bobcats made the playoffs this season for the first time in team history.  The excitement in Charlotte could not be ignored.  With Larry Brown as the Bobcats Coach it seemed the playoffs would be the place for them to shine.  However, the Orlando Magic had other plans all together.

The Magic took Game 1 98-89.  They won Game 2  easily 92-77.  Then they won Game 3 by the score of 90-86 in Charlotte.  Tonight in Charlotte the Bobcats are against that merciful wall that squeezes playoff rookies out of contention.  The Magic are poised to move on to bigger and better things.

NBA online betting

I like the Charlotte Bobcats and I thought they would put up a better fight.  Perhaps tonight they will turn their playoff season around.  I think they will and you can bet on that.  Until we meet again; may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.
