Sports News You Can Bet On

The Phillies were not very good house guests last night when they stunned the New York Yankees at home 6-1.  Phillies pitching ace Cliff Lee looked like he could have pitched 27 innings without breaking a sweat and the Yankees modern day murders row turned out to be quite harmless.  In game 2 the Yankees will try to get back on track with A.J.  Burnett while the Phillies rely on Yankee nemisis Pedro Martinez.  This should be a barn burner.  The reigning world champion Phillies are off to a great start.  The Yankees will have to overcome the Philadelphia pitching if they want to win it all for the 27th time.

The Denver Broncos have to be reciting the famous phrase by commedian Rodney Dangerfield ” I get no respect I tell Ya, No respect”.  Denver travels to Baltimore for a major NFL matchup.  The Broncos are 6-0 this season and the Ravens are a dismal 3-3 and hardly living up to their expectations and yet the Ravens are still favored by 3.  This means that Denver has yet to convince anyone they are for real.  This game is going to be hard fought but I am afraid Denvers luck is about to run out.  My pick:  Baltimore 20-13

The New York Giants take a little trip down to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles.  The Giants are 5-2 while the Eagles are 4-2.  This one will depend a lot on which teams show up.  Both have looked very good and then very bad.  It is going to come down to who wants it more.  The Giants are favored by 1.  This one will be decided in the trenches.  I like the Giants 17-14

Monday night the Atlanta Falcons journey to New Orleans to take on the 6-0 Saints.  The Falcons are 4-2 and on paper you might think this will be a fair matchup.  The Saints are favored by 10 but have the capability of blowing this one out.  I like the Saints 35-21

I saved the best for last.  Brett Farve and the Minnesota Vikings slide over to Green Bay at frigid Lambeau field to take on da Packers.   There is going to be a rumble in cheese town.  Farve is going home to Green Bay but it is not to a ticker tape parade.  Fresh off of their defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers last sunday the 6-1 Vikings need this victory against their division foes the 4-2 Packers.  The Vikings are still the real deal.  The Packers are getting there.  The Pack is favored by 3 but I like the Vikings 24-20

I also like the Texans over Buffalo, the Bears over the Browns, the Cowboys over the Seahawks, the Rams over the Lions, the Colts over the 49ers, the Dolphins over the Jets, the Chargers over the Raiders, the Jags over the Titans and the Cardinals over the Panthers.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The Yankees Are In The World Series Again

The 2009 World Series is set.  Last years World Champion Philadelphia Phillies will take on perhaps the most honored baseball franchise of all time in the New York Yankees.

Philadelphia would no doubt like to win their second Championship in a row.  The Yankees of course will have other ideas.  The Yankee Dynasty is stuff of legend.  The Yankees made it to the World Series the for the first time in 1921.  They lost to the New York Giants.  They lost to them again in 1922.  In 1923 however the trend changed and the Yankees won their first World Series over the Giants 4 games to 2 and as they say in the books the rest is history.

The Yankees participated in their first World Series about 88 years ago.  This year they are participating in their 40th bid for a World Championship.  They are 26-13 in their first 39 appearances.  As they seek their 27th World Championship against the hungry Phillies it is difficult for them not to reflect on history.

Legendary baseball royalty has adorned the Yankee pin stripes with pride from Babe Ruth to Mickey Mantle.  Today it is Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.  The immortal Yankees ghosts of World Series past will inevitably infiltrate the new 1.5 billion dollar stadium to cheer their descendants in spirit.

The Yankees won their last World Series Championship in 2000.  They made it back in 2001 and 2003 only to suffer defeat.  Over the last 5 years the organization has invested over a billion dollars into recreating the legend.  It appears that their money was well spent.  The Yankees are -190 on the money line to win their 27th Championship.

It is going to be a hard fought series for sure.  If the bats stay hot for the Yankees and the pitching remains strong from the likes of C.C. Sabathia the Yanks could easily put a damper on the Phillies repeat aspirations.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The MLB Playoff Picture

Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews, Betting Promotions, MLB Baseball — Will Curl @ 10:55 am

The MLB Playoffs are underway and the thrill of October baseball fills the air.  The excitement is already building, the anticipation, the hidden feeling down in he pit of your stomach that aches with desire to know if your team can prevail.  We all know in our own hearts who we want to win but who should we bet on?  The New York Yankees have 7-5 odds favorite to win the American League Pennant.  The Philadelphia Phillies have 7-5 odds to win the National League Pennant.  The New York Yankees are riding on 2-3 odds for winning the World Series.  Let’s take a look and see if these odds are holding up.

The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-2  in game 1 of the AL Championship series.  Derek Jeter smashed a home run and you could feel that legendary Yankee shiver go up and down your spine.  I am sure all of the famous ghosts from Yankees past walked across the street from their old home to watch the today’s Yankees play.  The Yankees are favored to win game 2 tomorrow night as well.

The Philedelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies in Game 1 by the score of 5-1.  AL Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee shut down the Rockies and at one point had retired 16 in a row.  The Phillies are predicted to win tonights game as well.

Don’t forget to place your bets on the MLB Playoffs at:

The Los Angeles Dodgers got by the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3.  The Dodgers utilized 5 relievers in their attempts to contain the Cardinals.  Both teams missed on excellent opportunities but the Dodgers found a way to win.  The St. Louis Cardinals are picked to win tonights game.  Many are predicting the Cards will make it all the way to the World Series.  The defending World Series Champ Phillies may have something to say about that.

Tonight the Boston Red Sox square off against the Los Angeles Angels in Game 1 of their series.  The Red Sox are favored to win game 1.  For the latest playoff odds check Baseball betting.

October seems to bring out the best and the worst in some players.  Some player live for that pressure while others cannot meet its demand.  As with all odds there are long shots and those that seem like a sure thing.  Of course every once in a while a team comes out of no where and bucks the system.  A team that plays with more heart than talent and somehow challenges the odds as they walk gallantly off into legend.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

Watch Nadal Soderling match video

It was on May 23rd 2005 when Rafael Nadal made his debut in the second Grand Slam of the year, the Roland Garros. Since then the Spaniard player has played 31 matches and guess how many he has lost, none, zero. During this streak he Nadal has won four consecutive titles and became the king of the red clay of Roland Garros. He beat Federer several times on this tournament, and eventually last year Rafi became the No 1 pro tennis player in the world.

At 2009 Roland Garros the online tennis odds were favoring Nadal over all other players. It looked as a sure bet because of Nadal’s shape. Then the unexpected happened, Rafael Nadal loses to Robin Soderling, a 24-year-old from Sweden with a bit of an attitude and 6-foot-3 worth of power.

Arguably Soderling’s 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory over the No. 1 seeded Nadal is one of the biggest sports betting upsets in tennis history. If you were able to predict this, a future reader maybe, you earned a lot of money if you bet on 2009 French Open grand slam. Below you can watch the Nadal vs Soderling match video.

If you like tennis online betting now is the time to start betting on 2009 Roland Garros. With Nadal out and Federer not in a great shape is a good time to try make good money wagering on the tennis grand slam.

2009 Preakness Stakes Odds favorite Rachel Alexandra

The 2009 Preakness Stakes on Saturday is all about the filly Rachel Alexandra. Forget about Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird. The real story is the superstar filly that is 8-5 in morning line Preakness odds.

Rachel Alexandra has won five straight by dominating margins and nearly everyone believes she is a deserving favorite in Preakness odds on Saturday. She gets her normal jockey Calvin Borel who will not ride Mine That Bird. She does start from the outside in post position #13 but everyone seems to think that is an advantage, not a problem. ”It’s beautiful. She’s going to be able to get position,” said assistant trainer Scott Blasi.

Borel is the first jockey in Preakness history to get off of the Derby winner to ride another horse. ”Calvin knows this filly so well, I don’t think we have to tell him anything about where he wants to be with her,” Blasi said. ”He’s very comfortable with her and we’re very comfortable with him.”

A filly has not won the Preakness since Nellie Morse in 1924 and no filly has even been entered since Excellent Meeting in 1999. The last filly to be favored in Preakness betting was Winning Colors in 1988 at odds of 2-1.

The 2009 Preakness Stakes betting sets up for Rachel Alexandra and Big Drama (10-1) to fight for the early lead and the outside post should make it easier for Rachel Alexandra to get to the front. ”It’s a good spot for her,” said Bob Baffert, the trainer of Pioneerof the Nile, ”She’s out there in the clear. If you’re in the middle and you don’t break well, they can jam you up. She’s going to be (running) one, two or three; that’s a good spot for her.” Pioneerof the Nile who finished second in the Derby is the second betting choice in the Preakness at odds of 5-1. Mine That Bird and Kentucky Derby betting favorite Friesan Fire are 6-1.

2009 Preakness Stakes at SBG Global

Mine That Bird’s trainer Bennie Woolley Jr. is happy about his horse’s starting position in post #2. ”They should clear away from us, put us in a nice spot to coast down the front side,” he said. ”I like the fact that Big Drama is inside of me. He will move on. It should leave me a little bit of a spot there.” The rest of the Preakness field has Musket Man at 8-1, Papa Clem at 12-1, General Quarters at 20-1, Take the Points and Terrain at 30-1, Luv Gov, Tone It Down and Flying Private at 50-1.

BetUs $100,000 2009 March Madness

THE  Bet Us $1,000,000 MARCH MADNESS BRACKET IS BACK.

March is here, and that means college basketball’s 2009 March Madness is just about to begin. College basketball fans wait every March for the tradition, excitement and upset that make up the Madness of the NCAA Basketball tournament. Office pools become a big hit, and are usually won by the office geek or a female making picks based on a team’s uniform colors, but real fans know that big money brackets are what is really important.

BetUs.com March Madness and brackets go together like tortilla chips and salsa, and BetUS have just launched the mother of all March Madness brackets: a $1,000,000 bracket—that’s right, a one million dollar March Madness bracket.

There are lots of different ways to complete your March Madness bracket, but using logical techniques will greatly enhance your odds on winning that one million dollars. First round games are interesting and there are nearly always upsets. It may be tempting to take the highest seeded teams in the early rounds, as they’re usually favored by big numbers and point spreads don’t play a factor in bracketology, but don’t be fooled. There is always a Cinderella story—a low seeded team that makes it through to the last 16 (known as Sweet 16) or the Final Four. George Mason were the Cinderella story a few years back as they went on to stun top-seeded perennial powerhouse Connecticut with an 86-84 overtime victory to make the Final Four. It was the first team from the Colonial Athletic Association ever to make it that far during March Madness.

When it comes to the polls, it is nice for a team to be ranked as one of the best 25 teams in the nation, but by no means is it a real indicator of where a team truly stands. A good example is of this is LaSalle; in 1990 they entered the tournament with a 29 – 1 record in and lost in the second round of the tournament to Clemson.

Here are a few historical points of interest:

  • Since the NCAA started seeding teams in 1979, only once have all four # 1 seeds made it to the National Semifinals (Final Four); this was in 2008 when Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis, and UCLA made the cut.
  • At least one # 1 seed has made the Final Four in every year except: 1980 and 2006.
  • A # 16 seed has never beaten a # 1 seed since the field was expanded to 64 teams (now 65). Do not be the one person in your pool to rest your hopes on College of Charleston being able to upset the University of Connecticut.
  • When it comes to the # 15 seed, teams have had very little success as well. Only 4 teams have been able to knock off the # 2 seed in the first round of the tournament.
  • A smart thing to do when filling out your bracket, is to make sure to follow the college basketball game odds and let that be an indicator as to which is the favorite team according to the oddsmakers. If a # 1 seeded team is favored by 25 points or more over a much lower seed, it’s a pretty safe bet the big favorite will win the game. But always keep in mind: there will always be upsets, and that’s a fact.

Knowing when to select the underdogs is the key to a winning bracket. Again, follow the odds, because oddsmakers are sharp and more times than not they’re correct. Use games with lines of ten points or less to select your underdogs. These games usually feature the middle-seeded teams. There is a much greater chance that a team favored by ten points or less will get upset against a team favored by 25 or more.
If you can’t be bothered following the lines then you could just pick the stronger mascot, when you don’t know anything about the teams, look at their mascots; you could make a pick based on each mascot—in a fight to the death, which would win, a duck or a lion? Otherwise just do what my sister does—make a pick on the team’s uniform colors.

Whatever your method for choosing your bracket, get in on the action this March, download the BetUS printable March Madness bracket and enter the one million dollar March Madness Bracket contest. Print it out and use it as your March Madness office bracket, as your Sweet 16 bracket or as your Final Four bracket during the most famous of college basketball tournaments.

FOOTBALLPOOLS.COM Predict and win

Sportech is a familiar name to the seasoned gambler since it happens to be one of the UK’s oldest established gaming companies, providing and facilitating football pools and online sports betting. Founded in 1923 this company enjoys a regular playing customer base of an estimated 750,000 players and a weekly jackpot of up to £3 million on its football prediction games.

Footballpools.com is a new service offered by Sportech to provide exciting and, indeed more importantly, very lucrative football prediction gaming opportunities. The two most valuable games that are available from FootballPools.com these days are Premier 10 and Footy 15. Both these games have made sensational payouts estimated up to £1.25m just since the start of the season late last summer, so you can bet that this record won’t stand there for very long. The outline of the games are relatively simple to understand and straightforward to explain. In the game Premier 10, players bet on ten Premier League matches, in a simple win, lose or draw outcome the prizes are awarded according to the category the players bet falls in at the end. In Footy 15 games, the exact same format is applied, except this time the players will bet on matches from all over the UK and Europe. The premier 10 game has rewarded and given out a huge amount of £500,000 in cash prizes. In contrast the Footy 15 has seen prizes of £850,000 dished out. These games are therefore an attractive proposition to the ardent gambler. Along with the monetary benefits there have been many non-cash prizes given away too.

However football pools isn’t your standard run of the mill gambling spot. There is more to what meets the eye when talking about this particular organization. Football pools pride itself on standing out of the crowd and most proudly do this by supporting the local community. Though not known to many football pools has given out over £1.1bn to different causes like sports, arts and charity over the past few decades. So whether you win or lose, football pools ensure that every time someone plays a percentage it goes back to the community. Perhaps the most appropriate way to look at sportstech has been described by the CEO of the company himself, who stated that the games were designed to allow football fans to have fun and test their knowledge, not to mention making some money in the process. This season they have already given out over £1.25million on their new games, which is a distinctive amount to have paid out.

AFC Playoff Wild Card Betting Preview

The most interesting game on Wild Card weekend occurs on Saturday night as the San Diego Chargers host the Indianapolis Colts. Both teams are playing great football of late as the Colts have won their last nine games while the Chargers have won their last four. This is the second straight season the teams are meeting in the playoffs as last year the Chargers eliminated the Colts 28-24 at Indianapolis. SBG Global reports that early NFL playoff betting has the public taking Colts on the Road.

NFL Playoffs Schedule

Indianapolis Colts (12-4) at San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Saturday, 8:00 pm Eastern – NBC

AFC Wild Card Betting Lines: Colts – 1.5 , Total 51

The Chargers are very fortunate to be in the playoffs at all. No NFL team had ever made the playoffs after starting 4-8 but the Chargers won their final four games while the Denver Broncos collapsed, losing their last three. San Diego became the first team since 1985 to win a division with a .500 record.

Indianapolis is led by Peyton Manning who threw for over 4,000 yards again this season. In his last nine games he threw for 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions. In the last game against San Diego in November, Manning threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Adam Vinatieri hit the game winning field goal to win that game for the Colts.

The last three meetings between the two teams have been decided by a combined total of nine points. Here are more NFL betting stats for Saturday’s game.
