NCAA Basketball’s Top 5 Teams Preparing For March Madness

March Madness is just around the corner so we thought it might be time to talk about the top 5 teams in the NCAA today.  There have been some surprises in the NCAA this year.  Last years National Champions the Tarheels of North Carolina are struggling while their rivals the Blue Devils of Duke are in the hunt.

The Duke Blue Devils are ranked 5th in the nation with a 23-4 record.  They are in 1st place in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.  They are fresh off of a 67-55 victory over Virginia Tech on Sunday. Coach K continues to work miracles with this team.  Kyle Singler had 25 points against Virginia Tech and is the spiritual leader on this team which should do well in March.

The Orange out of Syracuse are 26-2 and lead the Big East Conference.  They are ranked 4th in the nation.  They defeated Providence last night 99-85.  Rick Jackson dumped in 28 for the big orange.  Syracuse likes their chances in March and are up for the pressure.

Ranked 3rd in the nation are the Boilermakers of Purdue.  Their 23-3 record provides them with 1st place in the Big Ten Conference.  They beat Illinois 75-65 on Saturday night.  It was a strong overall effort with Mike Davis contributing 16 points.  Purdue is now in the drivers seat after passing Michigan State for the conference lead over the weekend.  Purdue runs the floor well and could be very competitive in March.

The Wildcats of Kentucky are ranked 2nd in the nation.  At 26-1 and leading the Southeastern Conference the Wildcats are the real deal.  However, on Saturday Kentucky struggled to get by Vanderbilt 58-56.  DeMarcus Cousins found the net for 19 points but Vanderbilt held this powerhouse to less than 36% accuracy from the floor.  Never the less, the Wildcats will be hard to corner in March.

The Kansas Jayhawks are ranked number 1st in the nation.  They have a 27-1 record and are 13-0 in the competitive Big 12 where they are 1st in the Conference.  Kansas stumbled on Monday and were embarrassed by the Oklahoma Sooners 81-68 providing them with their first loss of the season.  Xavier Henry found the hoop for 23 points but too much on this day.  Kansas clinched the Big 12 and are still the team to beat in March.

There is nothing quite like March Madness in the NCAA.  Once again the competition will be fierce.  It should be a lot of fun to watch.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

1000 Games For Coach K As Duke Hosts Maryland

The ACC in college basketball has always been a very competitive division.  Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski can vouch for that.  Coach K as he is more lovingly known had led the Duke Blue Devils to a 20-4 record so far this season and a number 8 ranking in the nation.  Today at  1pm eastern time in Dukes Cameron Indoor Stadium the Duke Blue Devils will host the Maryland Terrapins who are 16-6 and are second in the ACC behind the Blue Devils.

The game today will be the 1000th game coached in Coach K’s amazing career.  He has an overall record of 853-278 over a 30 year span.  The future hall of fame coach has a pretty impressive resume and has been chased by many NBA teams in the past including the Celtics and the Lakers. Duke has been equally impressive their last 2 games defeating Boston College 66-63 and their North Carolina rivals the Tar Heels 64-54.  Maryland has only played 1 game in the last week due to prevailing snow and that was a 92-71 beating of the on their heels Tar Heels.

Duke leads this series 106-60 and have reigned supreme in their last 5 contests.  Duke is the top offensive team in the ACC while Maryland is number 2.  This should be a dandy. It is also Coach K’s 63rd birthday and as much as 2nd place Maryland needs a win here the Blue Devils would hate to lose on such a special day for their beloved coach.  Look for Duke to win this in a nail biter.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

NCAA Betting Previews Oregon vs Arizona

The Pac-10 race is controlled by 11th-ranked Oregon but that could change if the Ducks trip up against Arizona on Saturday.  The Ducks lead the conference at 6-1 and can go to the Rose Bowl with a win over Arizona and in their finale against Oregon State.  If Arizona can win though, the race becomes wide open.

Oregon is a 6-point favorite with a total of 60 at SBG Global. Click here!

Arizona, Stanford and Oregon State still have a shot at making the Rose Bowl but only if the Ducks slip up.  “We know we’ve got to win to stay in the big picture,” Arizona coach Mike Stoops said. “There’s a lot of football to be played, but pretty much it’ll be over if we don’t win on Saturday.”

Oregon has the sixth-best rushing offense in the country led by freshman LaMichael James and quarterback Jeremiah Masoli.  James is 10th in the country with 1,193 rushing yards. “LaMichael had a great game (against Arizona State) and showed again why he’s one of the best in the nation. We’re going to ride him as long as we can,” Oregon coach Chip Kelly said.

Masoli has run for nine TDs and thrown for 11.  The Ducks offense is 9th in the country, averaging 37.1 points per game.

Arizona is going to have to score on Saturday to keep up with Oregon.  Quarterback Nick Foles has had a solid season and he will need a big game against the Ducks.  The Wildcats are 5-0 at home this season and last year they defeated the Ducks 55-45 at home.

Here are the college football betting stats for Saturday’s game. The Ducks are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 conference games. The Ducks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road favorite.

The Wildcats are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a home underdog. The Wildcats are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games. The Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in November. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between the two teams.

The Over is 4-0 in the Ducks last 4 games overall. The Over is 12-5-1 in the Ducks last 18 games as a road favorite. The Under is 7-1 in the Wildcats last 8 home games.

NCAA Football Preview For October 17th, 2009

Filed under: Articles, Betting Previews, NCAA Football — Tags: , — Will Curl @ 1:58 pm

The third Saturday in October is almost here and NCAA Football is in full swing.  No matter how good a team thinks they may be there comes a time when they have to put up or shut up.  That game when they have to prove to themselves and the country that they are the real deal.  A few of those games are set to kick off this weekend.

Is there a better place to start than the Red River Rivalry between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns?  Oklahoma is ranked #20 in the nation and are 3-2 this season but QB Sam Bradford was off for a month due to an injury.  He came back last week to throw for 389 yards against Baylor and believes that his offensive unit is geared for victory.  The Sooners on the other hand the Longhorns are ranked #3 and are undefeated.  So, who has more to prove?  The Longhorns are 3 point favorites this weekend with a moneyline of -165.  If the Sooners don’t self destruct this good be a doosey.

The #7 Ohio State Buckeyes are 5-1 this season and first in the Big 10.  The Purdue Boilermakers are 1-5.  The Buckeyes are 13.5 point favorites with a moneyline of -500.  The Buckeyes should win easily but they still have to prove that they can live up to the potential of their offense.

Two 4-1 teams face off this weekend when the #25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the #6 USC Trojans.  The Tojans are 10 point favorites here but the Fighting Irish can show that they deserve to be in contention by pulling an upset here.

Talk about proving something the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide are 6-0 this season under new head coach Nick Seban.  They host the #22 South Carolina Gamecocks who are 5-1 and coached by Steve Spurrier.  The Crimson Tide is a 17 point favorite here but the Gamecock defense says otherwise.  Seban has worked wonders in Alabama but this should be a good test for them.  Spurrier keeps saying the Gamecocks have yet to play to their full potential.  This good be the game.

Finally, the #1 Florida Gators and QB Tim Tebow host the 3-2 Arkansaw Razorbacks.  The 5-0 Gators are 24.4 point favorites in this one.  This one could be a nightmare for the Razorbacks.  Not much chance of a upset here.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

The Sportsbook Gazette Weekly Sports Roundup

Another weekend of sports action is here again and there will be a lot of athletes with sore bodies come Monday.  The Major League Baseball season is winding down and the National Football League is just heating up.  The NCAA Football season is on fire as well.  If you squint your eyes you can see the NBA season in the distance.  Yes, there is plenty of sports for any enthusiast and plenty of opportunity to make a little wager.  There is plenty to talk about so hold on tight it could get a little rough.

The MLB playoff picture is close to developing and it is going to be fun.  The New York Yankees are the winningest team in baseball this year with 102 wins.  They have clinched the American League East with the Boston Red Sox clinching a wild card spot right behind them.  In the AL Central the Detroit Tigers need to win 2 games to clinch.  The Los Angeles Angels have already clinched the AL West.  Last years Champions the Philedelphia Phillies have already clinched the NL East and the St. Louis Cardinals the NL Central.  In the NL West the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched with the Colorado Rockies taking in the wildcard.   Next week we will devote a day to sizing up the playoff picture.

Just a reminder that I picked the Patroits over the Raven, the Jets over the Saints, the Steelers over the Chargers and the Vikings over the Packers in Week 4 of the NFL.  I will also take the Dallas Cowboys over the Denver Broncos and the Tennesee Titans will pick up their first win over the Jacksonville Jaquars.  By the way Brett Farve injured his foot but he is up and moving around fine and should start his 273rd straight game on Monday night against the Packers.

In NCAA Football number 1 Florida is off until next weekend when they face LSU.  Number 2 Texas is also off until next week when they will face Colorado.  Number 3 Alabama is at Kentucky and should pull this one out with no problem.  Number 4 LSU is at Number 18 Georgia.  This will be a tough game but LSU should come away with a victory.  Number 5 Boise St is hosting UC Davis so what do you think?  Number 6 Va Tech is at Duke and they are not playing basketball folks.  Number 7 USC is playing Number 24 California who got stunned 42-3 last week.  It won’t get much better this Saturday.  Number 8 Oklahoma will be at Number 17 Miami of Florida.  Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford will not be starting.  That’s not good.  Could be an upset in the making.  Number 9 Ohio State will be at Indiana.  The Buckeyes have shutout their last 2 opponents.  Could Indiana be number 3?  I think so.  Finally Number 10 Cinncinati takes a short road trip to Miami of Ohio.  Cinncinati should not have a problem.

Just a few notes of interest.  In Golf Tiger Woods won the FedEX Cup last week and took home the ten million dollar prize.  That put Tiger over the Billion dollar earnings mark in his career.  That is right 1 Billion dollars.  In Tennis Rafael Nadal has been cleared to play again and will participate in Spain’s Davis Cup in December.  Andy Murray on the other hand has dropped out of the Japan Open due to a wrist injury.  Well that is it for this week folks.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

Reviewing Some Of The Big Games In Week 1 of NCAA Football

Filed under: Articles, Events, NCAA Football — Tags: , , — Will Curl @ 3:47 pm

Ohio State is ranked in the top ten of most NCAA football polls.  Their first game has the Buckeyes hosting Navy.  Not the biggest matchup in the world but it is very important that Ohio State gets off on the right foot this year.  Their second game will have them hosting a powerhouse in USC.  They need to hit the ground running and be up and ready for that game.  As usual Ohio State has a tough schedule facing Penn State, USC, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin just to name a few.  It all begins with Navy and the Buckeyes will need a win there to make it all happen.  The Buckeyes have won or shared the Big Ten Championship for the last 4 years.  Don’t look for that to change.  The Buckeyes should win this one easily.

The USC Trojans kick off their season on September 5th against San Jose State.  Although that does not strike much fear in the hearts of gridiron elite USC also needs a big win before they travel to Ohio State.  The Trojans won big in the Rose Bowl last January and their defense should be great even with some new starters in the front seven.  However that offense will have to contribute even more this season for them to go all the way.  Look for USC to win this one with ease.

The Oklahoma Sooners open up September 5th hosting Brigham Young University.  Brigham Young has always been known for their explosive offense but they need their defense to step up as well.  This will be an important year for QB Sam Bradford as he leads the Sooners in hopes of their 4th straight Big 12 Championship.  Bradford needs to show that he can play well even if his offensive line does not.  Oklahoma has new starters on the offensive line a new receivers as well.  If they click with Bradford early they will dominate, if not it could be a long season.  This game has all the makings of a shootout.  Look for Oklahoma to pull out a close one.

The Alabama Crimson Tide open up September 5th against the Virginia Tech Hokies.  Virginia Tech has been putting up ten win seasons without garnering much respect.  A big win here would take them up a notch.  Alabama Coach Nick Saban has brought the Tide back to it’s glory years in a very short time.  Game one of this season will be time to put up or shut up.  This game is going to be a tough one but look for Nick Saban to pull a rabbit out of his hat.  We will review more games tomorrow.  Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.

BetUs $100,000 2009 March Madness

THE  Bet Us $1,000,000 MARCH MADNESS BRACKET IS BACK.

March is here, and that means college basketball’s 2009 March Madness is just about to begin. College basketball fans wait every March for the tradition, excitement and upset that make up the Madness of the NCAA Basketball tournament. Office pools become a big hit, and are usually won by the office geek or a female making picks based on a team’s uniform colors, but real fans know that big money brackets are what is really important.

BetUs.com March Madness and brackets go together like tortilla chips and salsa, and BetUS have just launched the mother of all March Madness brackets: a $1,000,000 bracket—that’s right, a one million dollar March Madness bracket.

There are lots of different ways to complete your March Madness bracket, but using logical techniques will greatly enhance your odds on winning that one million dollars. First round games are interesting and there are nearly always upsets. It may be tempting to take the highest seeded teams in the early rounds, as they’re usually favored by big numbers and point spreads don’t play a factor in bracketology, but don’t be fooled. There is always a Cinderella story—a low seeded team that makes it through to the last 16 (known as Sweet 16) or the Final Four. George Mason were the Cinderella story a few years back as they went on to stun top-seeded perennial powerhouse Connecticut with an 86-84 overtime victory to make the Final Four. It was the first team from the Colonial Athletic Association ever to make it that far during March Madness.

When it comes to the polls, it is nice for a team to be ranked as one of the best 25 teams in the nation, but by no means is it a real indicator of where a team truly stands. A good example is of this is LaSalle; in 1990 they entered the tournament with a 29 – 1 record in and lost in the second round of the tournament to Clemson.

Here are a few historical points of interest:

  • Since the NCAA started seeding teams in 1979, only once have all four # 1 seeds made it to the National Semifinals (Final Four); this was in 2008 when Kansas, North Carolina, Memphis, and UCLA made the cut.
  • At least one # 1 seed has made the Final Four in every year except: 1980 and 2006.
  • A # 16 seed has never beaten a # 1 seed since the field was expanded to 64 teams (now 65). Do not be the one person in your pool to rest your hopes on College of Charleston being able to upset the University of Connecticut.
  • When it comes to the # 15 seed, teams have had very little success as well. Only 4 teams have been able to knock off the # 2 seed in the first round of the tournament.
  • A smart thing to do when filling out your bracket, is to make sure to follow the college basketball game odds and let that be an indicator as to which is the favorite team according to the oddsmakers. If a # 1 seeded team is favored by 25 points or more over a much lower seed, it’s a pretty safe bet the big favorite will win the game. But always keep in mind: there will always be upsets, and that’s a fact.

Knowing when to select the underdogs is the key to a winning bracket. Again, follow the odds, because oddsmakers are sharp and more times than not they’re correct. Use games with lines of ten points or less to select your underdogs. These games usually feature the middle-seeded teams. There is a much greater chance that a team favored by ten points or less will get upset against a team favored by 25 or more.
If you can’t be bothered following the lines then you could just pick the stronger mascot, when you don’t know anything about the teams, look at their mascots; you could make a pick based on each mascot—in a fight to the death, which would win, a duck or a lion? NBA Basketball, NCAA Basketball Betting Previews

The Washington Wizards would sure like to get Caron Butler back in the starting lineup but that may not happen until after the All-Star break although Butler is traveling with the team.  He did not play in Wednesday’s 85-77 home loss to San Antonio. Butler came back from a hip flexor injury and played Sunday against the Lakers but didn’t look right and then aggravated the injury in Tuesday’s loss at Philadelphia.  The Wizards are 1-4 without Butler in the starting lineup this season. SBGGlobal reports that early NBA betting has the public taking Nuggets at Home.

“We listen to our training staff, we listen to Caron and what our doctors say,” Wizards’ head coach Eddie Jordan said, “There’s no real damage there, it’s just sore, so if he feels he can go with moderate pain, he’s going to try to go. We want him to get better as well as he can for us so we can win games.” Some of Butler’s teammates did not think he would play until after the All-Star break.  The Wizards are a completely different team when Butler is in not in the lineup.  They are 7-24 without him since he joined the Wizards in 2005.

Denver is coming off a heart-breaking 118-115 overtime loss to Utah on Wednesday.  Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points before fouling out in overtime.  Allen Iverson led Denver with 34 points and 10 assists.

Here are the NBA betting stats for Friday’s game.  The Wizards are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Friday games. The Wizards are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the Northwest.
