NFL Season Delayed and Super Bowl Cancellation Odds

The NFL officially notified its players union on Tuesday that it will opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement, which could lead to a season without a salary cap in 2010 and a possible lockout in 2011.

With fans on edge, wondering about the state of their beloved league and what the possible consequences of Tuesday’s decision might be, the largest most successful sportsbook on the web, Bet US.com has once again beaten everyone to the punch and come to their aid with odds and predictions of possible outcomes.

“With all of the traffic we’ve had since the announcement on Tuesday, one thing is very, very clear,” stated BetUS.com spokesman Reed Richards.  “Fans are sick and tired of being put through the ringer.  It’s simply not fair to ask them to wait with bated breath for three seasons wondering if there’ll be a lockout at the start of each.  As such, we’re putting all of our predictive and analytical prowess on the line in order to give them some semblance of what might happen.”

India’s champion status amounts to little

PUNTERS have baulked at backing Twenty20 world champions India against Australia at the MCG tonight. “The biggest bet on the match has been $8000 at $1.45 on the Aussies while India are unwanted at $2.60,” said TAB Sportsbet’s Glenn Munsie.

However, a couple of Sportingbet Australia clients have wagered bets of $4000 and $3000 on India to cause an upset.

Sportsbook.com spokesman Col Greer said Australia were at $1.43 to win the match, while India had firmed slightly to $2.85 after $5000 was placed on them at $2.90.

Mark Morrissey from Betchoice.com said despite the short odds, “every bet we’ve written [has been] for the Aussies”. And Alan Eskander said Betstar.com.au had attracted a bet of $25,000 on Australia.

Munsie added that Australia were $1.36 favourites for the upcoming triangular one-day series, followed by India ($4.50) and Sri Lanka ($7).

Giants popular, too

Not every punter thinks the New England Patriots will stroll to the Super Bowl title on Sunday. “Easily the best-backed option is the New York Giants with a 12-point start,” Centrebet’s Neil Evans said. “We took nearly $30,000 on this and trimmed the start from 12 points down to 11. The punters have even [speculated] the Giants to win the match, although the Patriots remain a very short-priced favourite.”
Greer said the Giants, with 12 points start, had been well backed with Sportsbook.com.au, firming to $1.87.

Meanwhile, Eskander said Betstar.com.au took a wager of $35,000 on New England to win the Super Bowl from the same client who backed the Giants at the inflated odds of $41 before they upset the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional play-offs.

A Sportsbook.com punter this week splurged $50,000 on the Roosters to make the NRL top eight this year at $1.45.
TAB Sportsbet has also attracted early rugby league betting interest, with Munsie reporting wagers of $30,000 on Brisbane at $1.40 to make the top eight, $5000 on the Gold Coast at $3.75, $5600 and $2500 on Canberra at $6.50. In wooden-spoon betting, 2005 premiers Wests Tigers attracted a $1000 bet at $13.

Super Bowl Betting Line: Giants-Patriots Odds Sees Big Movement

Filed under: Articles, Tips — Tags: — admin @ 2:28 pm

The betting line for the New York Giants-New England Patriots Super Bowl has dropped to as low as New England -11.5 at some offshore sportsbooks, thought the Vegas odds are generally higher than the sharper offshore line.  The total is pretty steady at 53.5, though Vegas has it posted at 54 and many casinos.

The 11.5 is a very significant drop from several sportsbooks that had the line as high as 14. Mike Godsey of GodsTips.com, anchor of OffshoreInsiders.com says while he has not made up his mind on the game, early Giants money is not necessarily based on sound logic.

“Truthfully, my sports service never makes picks based on hunches. We still have a lot of techniques to run, so honestly I can neither agree nor disagree with any bets.” But he has spoken to Giants bettors who have already invested a lot of money and Godsey says they are using convoluted logic.

An example is betting the Giants because they have won a record 10 straight road games. “It’s a common blunder the square player makes in handicapping March Madness or the college bowls. Neutral games are just that—neutral. A team’s road statistics are not more relevant than their home numbers.”

Also he says, gamblers develop a fear of betting on or against certain teams if they’ve been burnt recently. “It’s rare when in a Super Bowl one team is entering on a spread slump. But Joey Bagofdonuts is afraid to bet with the Patriots who are winless against the spread in the playoffs or against the Giants who are undefeated in the postseason.”

Godsey says bettors have the attitude that they’ve been burned betting against the Giants or on the Patriots, so they won’t make the same mistake again.¼br> ¼br> source: http://www.offshoreinsiders.com/index.php?Page=Articles&ArticleID=1173
