Ohla, :D

A Great betting resource that i use for fun is yahoo nfl picks. They choose the best possible nfl winners for the new month or event.
they are not perfect but its fun to watch if they are right!

Of course, they do have a very nice system for determining who will win the games. Unfortuneatly, there are a lot a amateur betters who also do nothing but follow their picks, and there's not as much money to be made if everybody is betting on the same team. :) Of course, at times the Yahoo! NFL Picks are actually the ones you *should* be betting for (Don't bet against a team just because you don't want to follow the crowd), but unless you develop your own system, you will never win big at betting. It would be far better to take the time to learn about your sport, and decide for yourself who is more likely to win.

Ahh yes the old bait and pull tactic. I sometimes also feel that yahoo picks make their outcomes *wrong* just so they will bet on the correct team and gain more. This happend in the yearly 80s when soccer betting systems where popular in Europe. All of the fans would listen to the major betters, the betters would tell the crowd to bet on the wrong team, the betters would bet against the crowd, thus winning a lot of money, you would never see the betters again from that moment.

Its often hard to see who the man behind the mask is - in this case a leader or a cheater.

Yep, and that is where you have to do one of two things.

A) Develop your own system.
B) Find somebody who you really trust.

The first one may be more work, but you know that it won't be rigged against you. If you have the time and mathematical ability, I would go for it. On the other hand, those of us who can't think very analytically are forced to go with the second option. You can always try to find out about people and their systems from other betters, but in the end what you will end up doing is trial and error. If you pick someone and they screw you over, you just have to move on to the next guy's system.

How can you have a mathematical formula for a betting system....there would be like infinate variables that i think it would be inpossible.

*OK i said the word impossible* now someone should prove me wrong, right?

Creating a betting system is hard i would assume like pixel stated...but i might be wrong if you have enough luck :)

thanks

You're right - I can't imagine there would be any (successful) systems which are purely mathematical formulas. That being said, if you have the skill your calculations can give you some very helpful conclusions. There are simply to many variables in each game (of any sports) for any formula to keep track of everything and actually be right one hundred percent of the time. I would never trust a purely mathematical system, but the correct formulas can be a very helpful tool.

Although the human brain can hold that much info, it's not necessarily all related to one topic. ;)

I think that having a good system can greatly increase the odds of your winning. Of course, it is foolish to trust anything implicitly all the time, but as you said, having both a good, thorough system, and a plethora of knowledge inside your head can only increase your odds of winning.

As a quick ammendum to rowdypixel's first statement, the human brain also doesn't use a lot of it's capacity. (or so I've read in a lot of places).

However, to basically echo what rowdypixel was saying. All you have to do is find the perfect system, then adjust the system to brain ration. Once you get this combination correct (and that's a very, very difficult task), you can easily minimize your losses and maximize your profits. And isn't that why we got into gambling? :)

hi soccer_king... i agree with you. Maximizing profits is the name of the game!

PS: "I never knew I would learn about the human brain by reading a sports betting forum" lol :D

Cool facts!

You always learn something new here!

But going back towards the topic, I'd agree with most of what is said here (of course, I did say about half of it ;)). Take your time creating a system. Test it as often as possible, even if you don't actually be money on the results. Combining this with years of knowledge about how the game is played, and how certain things can affect the game, and you should be good to go.

Creating the perfect system is as much a game of patience as anything else.
