Avid football fans know their stuff.  They can tell you records and stats on the best teams and players in the league.  So, it’s only natural that those same fans want to cash in on their knowledge.  This is what leads many to start betting on football.

Before you can start betting, you have to know what you can send.  You need to determine how much money you have to work with, and you want to divide that up so it will last you the season.  Generally, people spend 2-3% of their entire amount on each bet.

Many consider themselves to be experts on wagering, but too often they are amateurs who just think they know everything.  But if you spend some time knowing what you need to do, you can actually be successful.  After all, you want to know what you’re doing if you’re going to invest money in it, right?

Find the Best Number

First of all, you need to take some time to find the best number.  You can’t just look at the lines in the first sportsbook you find and lay down your money.  You have to research.  You will lose your money quickly if you take the worst numbers all the time.

Avoid Laying More than Seven Points

Secondly, try to avoid laying more than seven points in the NFL.  While it can be profitable to lay numbers like that in a collegiate league, the difference in talent isn’t as great in the professional league.  On any given Sunday, the winner can vary.  Don’t automatically go with the favorite because you will sometimes be surprised.

Later in The Week is Better

If you are going to bet under, you want to wait until later in the week.  Let others bet over and push the totals up.  You especially need to consider this when it comes to games that will be on television.  TV games are automatically inflated because recreational betters like to wager on games they can watch.

Find Good Power Rating

Another way to maximize your returns is to find a good power rating and use that to help you.  You’ll want to watch a few different ones and find one that is less than 8 points off.  You don’t have to look at every play of the game, but maybe just three or four solid ones.

If you’re looking to make some money without investing quite as much, go for some of the less publicized teams.  Sometimes the odds for a popular team drive the price up, and you can often make just as much money on a lesser known program.  Just be sure to get in early to get the best price on odds.

Do Not Get Carried Away By The Media

One of the most important things about football betting is simply to not get carried away by the publicity and hype.  Just because a game is going to be televised doesn’t mean you have to put money on it.  Also, just because a team might have a big win on Monday night doesn’t mean they’ll do well on Sunday.  Don’t let the hype alone convince you to bet on something. 

Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb and do something that no one else is.  You can do well with collegiate leagues as well as the NFL, so do your research.  Don’t pick teams just because everyone else is.  Put some time into looking at teams and numbers and you’ll do a great job and make lots of money.
