2012 NFL Predictions: Week 3

The 3rd week of the NFL season kicks off tomorrow night in Charlotte, North Carolina when the Carolina Panthers 1-1 welcome the New York Giants 1-1 to Bank of America Stadium. Both of these teams pulled out vital victories in Week 2. The Giants and QB Eli Manning came back to beat to beat Tampa Bay 41-34. Manning threw for over 500 yards in the process. The Panthers beat the slipping New Orleans Saints 35-27. The latest odds favor the Giants this week by 1.5 points. This is going to be a tough game. The Giants have averaged 29 points per game the first two weeks, but they have given up 29 points per game as well. The Panthers have averaged just over 22 points per game, but have given up just over 21. This will be a good game, but I like the Panthers at home 27-24.

On Sunday the Dallas Cowboys 1-1 host the Tampa Buccaneers 1-1. The Cowboys got ambushed last week in Seattle 27-7, while Tampa Bay got overwhelmed by the Giants 41-34. The Cowboys have scored 15 points per game average so far this season, but have given up an average of 22. The Buccaneers have scored 25 per game and given up 25 per game. The Cowboys are favored by 7 in this game, which means that someone still has confidence in this Cowboy team. If the Cowboys can bounce back and play to their ability like they did against the Giants they can make this spread. I like the Cowboys here, but only 21-17.

Sunday afternoon the Denver Broncos 1-1 will welcome the Houston Texans 2-0 to Mile High Stadium. The Broncos lost 27-21 to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. The Texans beat Jacksonville 27-7. The Texans have scored 28 points per game and only give up 8. Their defense is ranked #1 in the NFL after the first 2 weeks. The Broncos have scored 26 per game, but have given up 23. The Texans are favored by 3 in Denver. The differnence so far for the Broncos has been that at home QB Peyton Manning has been able to communicate well with his offense, but in the noise in Atlanta this was made more difficult. The Broncos are an offense in progess and it will take time for Peyton to work out the kinks. However, at home this week the noise will be a problem for the Texans. The Texan defense has been dynamic and if they can put pressure on Peyton it will be a long day for the Broncos rather they are in Denver or not. Look for the Texans to disguise their defense to make it harder for Manning. I like the Texans here by a TD 27-20.

Sunday Night the Baltimore Ravens 1-1 host the New England Patriots 1-1. The Ravens lost in Week 2 by 1 to the Philadelphia Eagles 24-23. The Patriots got stunned by Arizona 20-18. The Ravens have averaged 33 points per game and given up 18. The Patriots have scored 26 and given up 16. The Ravens are favored by 3 at home. The Ravens need a win to keep on track with the Pittsburgh Steelers who should beat the Oakland Raiders this week. The Patriots need a win as well and are not likely to lose 2 in a row either. The pressure is on the Patriot defense this week. Look for the Patriots to upset the Ravens 24-19.

On Monday Night Football the Seattle Seahawks 1-1 welcome the Green Bay Packers 1-1. The Seahawks took it to the Dallas Cowboys last week 27-7 while the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 23-10 last Thursday Night. The Packers have scored 22 points per game and given up 20. The Seahawks have scored 21 and given up 13. It is not easy to play in Seattle as the Cowboys came to realize last week. The Packers are favored by 3.5. I am not on the Seahawk band wagon yet so I think the Packers will pull this one out 23-16.
