Federer Eliminated in 3rd Round of 2015 Australian Open!
Roger Federer has won 17 illustrious Grand Slams in his career, but he failed to display that glory in the 3rd Round of the 2015 Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia. 46th ranked Andreas Seppi eliminated Federer in the best of 5 series to move onto the 4th Round of competition.
His Earliest Exit at Melbourne
It was the first time in 14 years that Federer had been ousted so early in Melbourne. Federer entered the tournament as the 2nd ranked player in the world behind Novak Djokovic. Federer had defeated Seppi 10 times in their previous 10 encounters, but he just wasn't on his game in this unforeseen battle. Federer admitted after the loss that the opportunities to come back were everywhere, but he just could not take advantage of them.
Other Australian Open Results
Andy Murray easily defeated Joao Sousa 6-1, 6-1, 7-5 to move on. Murray has looked strong in his defiant search for his first ever Australian Open Title. He has reached the finals 3 times in the last 5 years losing once to Federer and twice to Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic made easy prey of Andrey Kuznetsov 6-0, 6-1, 6-4. Djokovic looks very strong and will almost certainly make the finals unless another upset lays in wait.
Rafael Nadal easily eliminated Dudi Seta 6-1, 6-0, 7-5 to move on as well. Nadal looked good in this victory, but many questions are lingering about his health and ability to play at the level he has become known for over the last decade.
3 of the big 4 are still alive in the hunt for the 2015 Australian Open Title. Federer is gone, but Djokovic, Murray and Nadal play on. Will Murray face Djokovic in the final for the 3rd time? Only time will tell. Until we meet again may your betting be better and remember to always be a good sport.
